GETTING STARTED
Train Audio is designed for simple everyday operation. Before placing the wagon on the track, open the upper body, switch the system on and close the wagon again. No connection to the locomotive electronics is required.
OPEN
Hold the wagon by the bogie and gently pull the upper body upward to remove it.
SWITCH ON
Set the ON / OFF switch located inside the wagon to the ON position.
CLOSE & PLACE ON TRACK
Place the upper body back onto the bogie, close the wagon, put it on the track and connect it to your locomotive.
LOW BATTERY WARNING?
If Train Audio gives a low-battery warning, recharge the built-in battery using the USB Type-C port located on the side of the wagon.
BRING YOUR STEAM LOCOMOTIVE TO LIFE
Experience realistic steam locomotive sound without changing your model’s original decoder or electronics.
Train Steam Loco Audio adds synchronized locomotive sounds, atmospheric idle effects and wireless control to create a more immersive model railway experience.
REALISTIC SOUND

4 CHANNEL REMOTE
Wireless control of additional locomotive sound functions.
USB-C CHARGING
Simple and convenient charging through a standard USB-C connection.
WHY TRAIN AUDIO?
Train Audio takes a different approach. Its purpose is not to replace the analog system, but to enrich it. The locomotive continues to operate normally with its existing analog system, while Train Audio independently monitors the track voltage and automatically adapts the sound to the locomotive’s movement.
NO DIGITAL CONVERSION REQUIRED
The locomotive’s existing analog system remains unchanged.
AUTOMATIC SPEED-SYNCHRONIZED SOUND
As the train accelerates or slows down, Train Audio automatically adapts the running sound to its movement.
KEEP THE ANALOG CHARACTER
Enjoy modern sound features without changing the basic operating principle of your classic analog locomotive.
PER SPEED DECISION
STABLE SOUND. REAL MOVEMENT.
STABLE SPEED DETECTION
Train Audio does not determine the locomotive’s speed from a single voltage reading.
For every speed decision, the system analyzes and averages 200 individual measurements.
Additional hysteresis is applied when changing between speed steps, helping to prevent small electrical fluctuations on the track from causing unnecessary or unstable sound changes.
The result is smoother and more consistent sound transitions as the locomotive accelerates or slows down.
INTELLIGENT STEP PROTECTION
Dirty rails, wheel contact issues or passing over track switches can cause very brief interruptions in electrical power.
If the track voltage suddenly drops, Train Audio does not immediately switch to a lower speed sound. The current speed step is maintained for 300 milliseconds.
If the voltage returns within this period, the event is treated as a brief loss of contact and the system continues at the same speed step without an unnecessary change in the running sound.
4-CHANNEL WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROL
The supplied 433 MHz 4-channel wireless remote control provides direct access to additional locomotive sound functions while Train Audio continues to manage the main running sound automatically.
SHORT WHISTLE
Plays a short locomotive whistle. Available while stationary or moving.
LONG WHISTLE
Plays a long locomotive whistle. Available while stationary or moving.
BELL SOUND
Plays the locomotive bell sound. Available while stationary or moving.
STATION / CONDUCTOR
Available only while stationary. Each press plays the next sound in a bank of 6 station and conductor sounds. After the final sound, the sequence returns to the first.
INTELLIGENT START & BRAKE EFFECTS
INTELLIGENT START
Train Audio does more than simply change running sounds according to speed. It also monitors how the locomotive is behaving.
When the locomotive starts moving from Idle, a dedicated steam release / departure effect is played first.
Once this effect is completed, the appropriate speed-synchronized running sound begins automatically.
INTELLIGENT BRAKING
During deceleration, the brake sound is not repeated with every decrease in speed.
When the locomotive slows down from higher speed steps and enters the final braking range, the brake effect is triggered only once.
Before the brake effect can be triggered again, the locomotive must first accelerate out of the braking range. The brake sound is never played while the locomotive is in Idle.
ALIVE AT REST. ALIVE IN MOTION.
Train Audio creates a continuously changing sound environment, whether the locomotive is standing still or moving.
A LIVING IDLE ENVIRONMENT
When the locomotive is stationary, the main Idle-Steam sound runs continuously while atmospheric effects are triggered randomly through the independent FX channel.
The system minimizes repeated playback of the same effects, helping each idle period develop differently.
INDEPENDENT FX WHILE MOVING
While the locomotive is moving, the main Step sound follows the current speed step continuously on the MAIN audio channel.
FX sounds are layered over the running sound without stopping the main locomotive audio.
Between Step 1 and Step 14, short and light steam effects are also generated automatically at random intervals of approximately 10–20 seconds.
If the FX channel is already in use, Train Audio waits until it becomes available before playing the next automatic effect, preventing multiple effects from interfering with each other.
POWER & BATTERY SYSTEM
BUILT-IN LI-ION BATTERY
Train Audio is powered by its own built-in 18650 Li-ion rechargeable battery. The sound system therefore operates independently from the locomotive’s analog drive power.
DIRECT CHARGING
The battery can be charged directly inside the unit through the USB Type-C connection, without removing the battery from the system.
EXTENDED OPERATING TIME
Depending on operating conditions, volume level and use of additional sound functions, Train Audio can provide up to 48 hours of operating time on a single charge.
Train Audio continuously monitors its own battery voltage. When the battery reaches a critically low level, normal locomotive sounds are automatically stopped and a short Beep warning is played at regular intervals.
While Low-Battery Mode is active, running sounds, Idle sounds and normal FX functions are disabled. Only the low-battery warning remains active until normal operating voltage is restored.
POWERFUL PROCESSING & REAL-TIME AUDIO MANAGEMENT
At the heart of Train Audio is a 160 MHz RISC-V processor supported by 4 MB of Flash memory. The system continuously performs multiple control and audio tasks in real time while the locomotive is operating.
